As Peter Weber’s season of the Bachelor has been coming to a close, the discussion of the next Bachelorette naturally rose among fans across Bachelor Nation.
The revealing of her identity on March 2, however, had more than mixed results.

Clare Crawley, a contestant from Juan Pablo’s season of The Bachelor in 2014, has been named the next Bachelorette, breaking the streak of the bachelorette being a woman from the previous Bachelor season.
She is also breaking the streak as the oldest Bachelorette— 39 years old when filming starts— the franchise has ever seen.
Crawley was best known for her famous break-off with Pablo, who broke her heart and slut-shamed her on one of his dates his season.
“I thought I knew what kind of man you were,” she had said to him, in her long turquoise dress. “What you just made me go through, I’d never want my children having a father like you.”
Crawley made her mark on Bachelor Nation that episode, and was invited back for Bachelor Winter Games and two seasons of Bachelor in Paradise.
It was actually on Bachelor Winter Games that Crawley got engaged to Benoît Beauséjour-Savard, but the couple broke up in April 2018.

Her ex-fiancé took to Instagram to comment on her new role.
“Congratulations to this gem!!” Beauséjour-Savard wrote in a recent post. “She will be an amazing Bachelorette. She is smart, fun, strong, knows what she wants, and most importantly, she will call out the guys messing around!! Hell yeah!! Good Luck on your journey to find love @clarecrawley!! You will be the best.”
But not everyone is as supportive of the announcement. Twitter, especially, had something to say.
"I like Clare but people that are like her and nick are single for a reason,” one fan wrote. “Some people just don’t do good in a relationship and it won’t last. How many chances are these people gonna get? She’s been on bachelor in paradise like 20 times.”

Another called her “just another nondescript blonde,” with another saying “Umm, NO THANKS! I won't be watching. How about a woman of color? We aren't all blue eyed and have blonde hair!”
Others even said they are now unwilling to watch the new season.
“Crazy Claire?? No thanks. I’ll be sitting out for the first time since season 1,” one fan commented on the Twitter announcement.
“I guess I won’t be watching her season,” another wrote.
Crawley’s season of “The Bachelorette” premieres May 18 on ABC.
